The life of a mom is busy. Usually running on only a few hours of sleep and working on fumes can make it hard to stick to a healthy routine. Living a busy life, taking care of others can begin to take its toll on a mom after a while, which means that their self-care routines and their healthy lifestyle habits can easily get derailed. Making healthy choices a priority takes energy that moms don’t always have, which is why moms may fall off of their healthy routine from time to time.

Sure it’s all part of parenting, but one doesn’t have to stop making their healthy lifestyle and goals a priority while raising kids. In fact, it is important that kids grow up seeing how their parents prioritize their own health on a daily basis. So while it can be hard sometimes, when you’re exhausted and bogged down by a do-list a mile long, remember that your kids are watching and learning from every decision you make.

5 Ways Busy Mom’s Can Stick to A Healthy Routine:

Hydrate:

This one may seem to be an obvious tip, but hear us out before you roll your eyes at us. Drinking lots of water has MAJOR benefits, but all too often we leave our water bottles and coffee laying around the house while chasing our kids, forgetting to continually hydrate throughout the day. The next thing you know, you’ve got a pounding headache haven’t had anything to drink.

Carry a water bottle with you and make it a point to drink more than enough in your day. We like to set an alarm on our phones (because, well we know those are attached to our hips) to remind us to guzzle some water at least once an hour. We also stash them in places in case we set one down, losing it throughout the day. Keep one in the car, in your diaper bag, upstairs and downstairs, in the stroller, etc. Take inventory of where you spend your time and put water bottles there!

Make good choices:

We have found that if we make a conscious effort to recognize how we feel after we eat certain foods, we are motivated to make better food choices that help us get through the day. That spicy Italian sub may sound great, but you’ve got two little babies to take care of afterward and that sandwich might make you feel more like taking a snooze!

We keep our healthy routine on track with weekly meal planning, food prep and choosing to keep snacks in the house that we can feel good about. One of our new favorites is Harvest Snaps, especially their two new flavors Parmesan Roasted Garlic & White Cheddar! These tasty snacks provide 4-5g of plant-based protein in every serving. We love to dip them in hummus or guac while finishing projects around the house or snack on-the-go, but most of all we love that we can kick our afternoon cravings without having to sacrifice calories for the day.

Head to the produce aisle at your local Safeway to give Harvest Snaps a try! From now until the end of the month, snag a coupon to save $1.00 on any two bags of Harvest Snaps (3.0-3.3 oz.) by clicking the digital coupon on Safeway Just for U. Valid now thru 10/6/18, available in the Denver area.

Calling all of our Denver Peeps….need something to do next weekend? Head to Oktoberfest Denver (downtown Denver). Harvest Snaps Brand Ambassadors will be handing out samples just outside the entrance from 11am-5pm, Saturday & Sunday, September 29th & 30th.

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop:

Keep moving, even when you are tired. Moms are pretty good at pushing through on little sleep.  It’s easy to want to lay down when we feel a little sluggish. Get your blood flowing by:

  • getting outside for an extra 10-minute walk
  • taking the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible
  • walking or standing during your conference call instead of sitting.

JUST…KEEP…MOVING!

We don’t always have time to get to the gym or fit in an at-home workout but find ways to increase your activity level throughout the day doesn’t require much effort. Simple changes can make a big difference to help you keep your healthy routine on track. Just remember, DON’T beat yourself up if you don’t hit your goals one day, try again the next!

Say Goodbye to Those Bad Habits:

Fill your house with foods that are good for you, schedule time to get in a workout, and get out and about daily. Maybe you tend to eat well during the day and overindulge after the kids are in bed.  Allowing yourself a few cheats throughout the weeks is completely acceptable and necessary.  Waking up each day and setting a few goals will keep your healthy routine intact. We all have weaknesses, but making a plan keeps us from getting off track less often.

Kick Sugar To the Curb:

In an effort to revamp our healthy routines, we have taken a hard look at the sugar we were consuming on a daily basis and making every effort to take it out of our diets. It can feel hard to do and can make you feel sluggish at first.   Ultimately, taking sugar out of your diet will make you feel amazing and full of energy! Take a look at what is in your kitchen.  Culprits with high sugar content may be your coffee creamer, condiments or sauces you use while cooking, and any prepackaged snacks that you regularly eat. You may be surprised how much sugar you actually end up putting your body every day. It will take a conscious effort and some serious self-control. We promise you that cutting sugar out of your diet is doable.  It will make you feel pretty amazing once you get it accomplished!

Moms, you don’t have to sacrifice your healthy lifestyle just because you are exhausted and busy raising kids. Just remember these few tips when you are on the verge of making unhealthy choices.
