Summer Snacking Reinvented: A Healthy Popsicle Recipe for Kids

Feeding our twins a variety of foods has always been a priority; being able to find healthy options that taste great and have no added sugar is a BIG bonus.

When the boys were little and started eating solids, it was hilarious to see their facial expressions when they tried something new.  The expressions were priceless. After we fed them beets their faces resembled something out of a horror movie, but nonetheless they loved trying all sorts of new foods!

We found ourselves finding new and creative recipes that incorporated yogurt to help get extra protein and healthy probiotics in our kids’ bellies.  It was easy feeding them yogurt at the table, but when it came to yogurt on the go, things got messy. We started to freeze yogurt into yogurt drops and as the boys got older, we started experimenting with popsicles.  Here is one recipe we continue to make this day now that our boys are toddlers and preschoolers and they still gobble it up the same!

We teamed up with Happy Family Yogurt to bring you this healthy popsicle recipe that is popular in our homes!

This yogurt is a great food for not only babies but toddlers as well.  Yogurt provide probiotics and essential nutrients that can help cultivate a happy belly.

Feeding our kiddos the right kind of dairy is also important to support their gut health.  Probiotics for the win!

Yogurt Popsicles:

What You’ll Need:

  • Happy Tot Yogurt Cups (We love the Apple & Pear flavor)
  • Popsicle Molds
  • Fresh Fruit

Follow These Steps to Make Healthy Popsicles for your Kiddos All summer Long:

Step 1:

Chop up your fresh fruit. We love strawberries, blackberries & blueberries. Throw the fruit into the blender to puree for 10 seconds. You can puree the fruit separately or together.

Step 2:

Put part of the fruit in the popsicle molds.

Step 3:

Scoop the Happy Tot Whole Milk Yogurt into the molds. You will fill almost to the top.

Step 4:

Finish the mold by topping with more pureed fruit.

Step 5:

Put the popsicle sticks and molds back into your pops.

Step 6:

Freeze for 12 hours!

Enjoy!

Something to note: This works best when you can freeze them overnight.   The yogurt is a better consistency to eat as a popsicle after it’s been in the freezer for 12 hours. The sticks and the entire popsicle will also be easier to wiggle out of the mold.

Most babies can start eating yogurt as soon as they start eating solids – around six months, which pediatricians actually recommend. Whole milk yogurt is an excellent choice for one of your baby’s early foods because it contains nutrients such as calcium, protein, and vitamins.
